JENNIFER CROSON

The work painted on miniature wallpapers, creates a scale and an implied stage for the narrative. The imagery, deeply rooted in childhood memories, refers to characters and events in American history and folklore. The figures appear to be carved or molded out of Terre-cotta in reference to the history of sculpture and monuments. The narrative, which attempts to resolve an individual’s connection to history, culture and life, is ambiguous, undecided and melancholy.

I like the mixed textures of this piece. The stability of the seated figure juxtaposed with the vulnerable, undefined other figures and the disaster in the factory behind provokes thoughts of historical moments and figures and questions of the connections between the elements in the piece: leaders & workers and their works. The piece is indeed "ambiguous, undecided and melancholy."
