AMANDA CHURCH

"My paintings depict a multi-referential interplay of form and color, incorporating an idiosyncratic vision of psychological portraiture into a signature style of swirling configurations and artificial palette. The biomorphic shapes I have been working with for some time reflect the dreaminess of human thought and reference such disparate elements as graffiti and 60s and 70s album covers and rock posters. Through myriad associations I approach a reflection of the world and an enhancement of meaning, thereby creating a fragmented mirror as well as a kind of idealized refuge from harshness and strife. My paintings, while existing in peculiar tandem with the real world, are soft and sensual, and they attempt to immerse the viewer in an intimate sphere of joy." Amanda Church, 2008
