Julie Evans is a New York City based artist who has had many solo and group exhibitions in the US and abroad, most recently at Julie Saul Gallery in Chelsea, (solo) and Daniel Weinberg in L.A. (group). Past exhibitions include shows at Metaphor Contemporary Art, Geoffrey Young Gallery, Moti Hasson, Marella Arte Contemporanea, the William Benton Museum of Art, Wooster Gardens, Sears Peyton, and many others. Evans’ work has been reviewed in The New York Times, ArtForum, Art in America, Flash Art, TimeOut Magazine, The New York Observer, Art on Paper Magazine, The Village Voice,The Times of India and elsewhere. For 10 years she held the position of Director of the Visual Arts Program at The New School in NYC, as well as having been an adjunct professor and visiting artist at many east coast universities, including Rutgers University, Univ. of Conn., Long Island University, College of Charleston-School of the Arts, etc. She is currently teaching at The Pont-Aven School of Contemporary Art. Evans is a recent recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship to India where she researched Indian miniature painting. She has attended artists’ residencies both in the US and abroad including the MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, Millay, and Sanskriti Kendra (India). Recent and upcoming projects include a print project with the Tamarind Institute, and co-curating an exhibition of Contemporary Indian Art for the 2005 Venice Biennale. Evans’ work is represented in over one hundred private and public collections including The Rubin Museum of Art, JP Morgan Chase & Co., Pfizer Inc., Progressive Corp., the US Trust Corp, The Chambers Hotel and the Federal Reserve Bank.
