Let Us Flirt,cut paper, 9 1/2" (h) x 13 1/2" (w), 2007
It is the clash or intersection of sex and Americana that I paint with cut paper, draw with thread, embroider on towels, or write with the glow of neon tubing. I coax these incongruent elements until they sit well together, creating works that have been described as “thoughtful symbols of throwaway culture.” I graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art and was awarded an MFA in painting from Columbia University. Internationally, I have exhibited with one-person shows in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I was included in the Queens International 2006, Art on Paper Weatherspoon Art Museum 2006, and NextNext:Art at the Brooklyn Academy of Music 2002. In 2003, I was the recipient of a NYFA award in Drawing. Reviews of my work appeared in The Washington Post, The New York Times Long Island, and The Los Angeles Times. I live in Queens and work in my Greenpoint, Brooklyn studio.
